Innovative, sustainable and magical – this is how the Swiss Pavilion is to present itself at Expo 2025 in Osaka. The motto of the upcoming world exhibition, which will take place in Japan from April 13 to October 13, 2025, is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives". In keeping with this, Switzerland is building probably the lightest pavilion at the Expo. The overall concept is based on sustainability – and a touch of magic.
Switzerland is getting ready for Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. The Swiss Expo Pavilion will probably be the lightest of its kind. It is intended to present itself as a powerful, leading innovation hub that underlines Switzerland’s innovative strength with an overall concept that is sustainable, rich in experience and in keeping with Swiss culture.
The construction of the Swiss Pavilion – inside and outside – focuses on nature, innovation and sustainability: spheres and modular constructions made of reused recyclable materials, as well as plants that grow over and surround the building capturing CO2, form the barrier-free architecture and contribute to a minimal environmental footprint.
The pavilion’s exterior, which is characterized by lightness, is also continued inside: in the pavilion’s five spheres, visitors experience how Swiss innovation is created from the nutrients of nature as well as with Switzerland’s humanistic tradition. The Swiss innovative power can be (symbolically) carried out into the world by the guests in the form of plant seeds.
With a lot of Expo experience and innovative ideas, the Swiss company NUSSLI realizes the Swiss pavilion at the Expo 2025 with Manuel Herz Architekten and BELLPRAT PARTNER. The team is completed by Robin Winogrond Landscape Architects, Studio AA-Morf and Kyoto Design Lab.
