City Events The city of Kiel promotes Diversity with a creative light show event

Many cities around the globe acknowledge their social and ecological responsibility and launch CSR projects. The city of Kiel (Germany) now presents the premiere of a new light show, the "Kieler Lichtermeer" (Kiel Sea of Lights) by Kiel-Marketing. The outdoor event is intended to set new standards for a social, diverse and respectful urban society.

The city event is intended to promote a good social climate by creating positive social experiences, as well as supporting the regional economy and the service providers from the event industry, which have been severely weakened by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. The city of Kiel is presenting the "Kiel Sea of Lights" for the first time, which will complement the Scandinavia Days on November 6 and 7, 2021. Under the motto "ICH FÜHL MICH KIEL" (I FEEL KIEL), the stores will additionally invite shoppers to Sunday shopping from 1 to 6 p.m. on November 7.

Philipp Dornberger from the "Kieler Woche" project, explains: "Kiel.Sailing.City would like to set a sign for a diverse and tolerant urban society with the new event project 'Kiel Sea of Lights'. The project is intended to create fun and to give people the possibility for communication and networking during the dark season, as well as to awaken anticipation for the next 'Kieler Woche 2022' event."

Uwe Wanger, Managing Director of Kiel-Marketing, is in charge of the implementation with his team and is enthusiastic: "The unique light show, which will take place in the city center, is an absolute novelty in Kiel’s event calendar, effectively staged with atmospheric music, impressive light effects, lasers, drones and projections. In line with the motto 'KIEL helps KIEL' and #IfeelKiel, the event will be organized and realized by a large number of Kiel event companies."

Prominent Kiel buildings such as the town hall with its tower, the opera house, the Ministry of Justice or the Förde Sparkasse will be wrapped in light. Not only large buildings such as the former HSH Nordbank but also the small ABK house will be staged. In the city center, the illuminated facades of the Kiel News, the venerable St. Nikolai Church and the Welcome Center Kieler Förde will contribute to the sea of lights effect.

The shows start on Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 and 8 p.m. respectively. Interactive light elements, imaginative fire shows and enchanted creatures can be discovered around the city center. For children, the popular lantern parade will take place on Saturday as part of the Scandinavian Days – led by the HOLSATIA Kiel marching band.
