Promotional gifts are a popular way for companies and brands to increase their brand awareness and customer loyalty. Giveaways are also great for events. But which items are particularly popular and what characteristics do modern promotional gifts need to fulfill? A new study by the online print shop VistaPrint and the survey institute YouGov provides the answers.

As part of the promotional products study conducted by VistaPrint and YouGov, over 2,000 participants across Germany were asked about the most popular promotional products. According to the results, it remains a fact that most people are happy to receive free giveaways. This was stated by 62% of the participants surveyed as part of the promotional gifts study.

For companies, brands and event organizers, branded promotional gifts are an effective means of increasing brand awareness and customer loyalty: 81% of respondents who have received free promotional items in the past use these products as a matter of course in their everyday lives. As a result, they repeatedly come into contact with the sender. 76% remember the sender and 71% even state that promotional gifts have a positive influence on the brand image. 42% of respondents stated that they had subsequently purchased products from a brand after receiving free promotional items from that brand. 46% of them have even recommended the brand to others.

According to the study, the most popular promotional items include: power banks (named by 33% of respondents), USB sticks (24%), backpacks (23%), hoodies (18%), umbrellas (17%) and pens (15%). For the majority of respondents, the usefulness of the promotional items is the most important factor in their selection (66%), with the sustainability of the product playing a major role in second place (23%). 52% of respondents would even spend money on a great promotional item from their favorite brand.

However, if you look at which giveaways brands and event organizers prefer to distribute, this does not quite match the ranking of recipients. The top giveaway among advertisers is the pen/pencil (44%), followed by tote bags (30%), notepads (26%) and snacks / sweets / candy (25%).
