The worldwide Corona pandemic already prevented numerous corporate Christmas events last year. And even in 2021, despite increasing vaccination rates, the situation is not yet relaxed. If you don’t want to spoil the fun for yourself and your employees this year, you should activate all your creative skills and think about how you can realize your upcoming x-mas event as non-infectious as possible without losing the fun factor.
Here are three basic ideas as an inspiration for all event managers in companies, associations, clubs, authorities and agencies who are still looking for a last-minute idea for a "Corona-safe" corporate Christmas event:
1. "Outdoor" instead of "Indoor"
Instead of celebrating in stuffy indoor rooms and possibly risking an unfavorable concentration of contaminated aerosols, you can simply move this year’s Christmas party outdoors. How about a mini-Christmas market in the outside area of the company premises? A few wooden booths with nice decoration and gift ideas, a Secret Santa booth where the staff can pick up personal gifts, mulled wine and Christmas finger food instead of lavish indoor Christmas buffets will do. You can combine this idea with the following idea (see below).
2. "Downsizing" instead of "Crowds"
Large crowds increase the risk of infection. So why not celebrate in smaller units. One idea would be 2 – x team events, where every day during the Advent season a different employee group decorates a collective (outdoor) corporate Christmas tree, which then shines perfectly on December 24. (An artfully framed photo of it is given a permanent placement in the foyer of the headquarters.) These little team events can be perfectly combined with a rustic outdoor barbecue and can be linked to a charity campaign (e.g., the company donates x $ or EUR for each ball or light that is placed on the tree). The idea has repetition potential – every year you can repeat the event series and put the Christmas tree under a different motto. Over the years, this creates a wonderful photo gallery that perfectly reflects the team spirit and the good working atmosphere in your company.
3. "Digital" instead of "as usual"
Virtual events are no substitute for personal contact – that much is clear. And to sit alone in front of the screen will not create the same positive feelings as at a real Xmas party. But even after 2020, there are still some great ideas for remote Christmas parties. For example, a joint virtual Christmas cookie baking event. A member of the top management team acts as head chef and demonstrates the baking of his/her favorite cookie recipes via livestreaming. Each member of the team will be sent an ingredient box in advance so that they can bake along.
There are much more ideas for creative and Corona-safe Christmas parties.
